Maker
Anna Macrae has always been a Maker. Play and exploration in the use of found objects and everyday materials have been a constant in her practice. This current series continues to be grounded in a process based art making approach, combined with the use of high and low grade materials and mediums.
Creating highly textural surfaces, this work morphs between 2 and 3 dimensional sculptural constructions. There is a continual interplay from complexity to simplicity, where Macrae seeking to find a balance at the point where potential chaos and excess is somewhat harnessed.
Anna Macrae is interested in the physicality of materials as she plays with the notion of space and form. This collection weaves playful narratives that are embedded in the process of construction and deconstruction. The surface quality of her pieces captivates the viewer and invites for an intimate exploration of the terrain that depicts the push and pull between beauty and disorder.
