“In the Dark There is Light” | A Winter Group Exhibition

December 17 @ 11:00 am - 5:30 pm

Free

ArtX Contemporary is proud to present In the Dark There is Light, a winter group exhibition featuring works by Juan Alonso-Rodríguez, Caryn Friedlander, Alla Goniodsky, Elaine Hanowell, HiiH Lights, Tiao Nithakhong Somsanith, William Song, and more. Art has the power to help us find joy and connection in dark times. It can bring warmth and light to our homes, uplifting the spirit. The community built around art, between artists, viewers, patrons, and supporters, provides energy and solace.

In this exhibition, the ways that artists evoke light and dark are explored through mediums including paint, handmade paper, metal embroidery, textile, and more. Moody abstract paintings by Caryn Friedlander and Alla Goniodsky develop intense contrast between light and dark, creating paintings that glow with a sense of internal light. Minimalist works by Juan Alonso-Rodríguez and William Song explore the potential for color to emanate light and affect the viewer emotionally. Lighted sculpture by Elaine Hanowell and HiiH Lights juxtapose handmade paper and light to create a warming glow. Leaves by Tiao Nithakhong Somsanith are intricately beaded in hammered gold, silver, and copper to create a glittering reflection on the impermanence of life.
