      Our Stories

      Johnson & Carr, Inc.

Johnson & Carr, Inc. is a local Seattle developer of multifamily & mixed-used projects located in the city’s urban core. Founded by Tyler Carr and Kelten Johnson in 2010, the company specializes in creative applications of urban infill with a focus on providing affordable and sustainable housing.  Their commitment to the neighborhoods, great design, and the well-being of their residents has resulted in several exciting up and coming communities throughout Seattle.

      Urban ArtWorks

We are a 20 year old nonprofit that paints murals with adjudicated youth. Through the program youth earn work readiness skills and subsidized wages through King County, and experience a positive way to reconnect with their communities. In addition, Urban ArtWorks manages public art projects, connecting builders to artists and artists to opportunities.

      Mural Site

Johnson & Carr, Inc. and Urban ArtWorks invites experienced public artists to paint a mural on a new live/work and retail development in the heart of Seattle’s Capitol Hill/Pike Pine neighborhood at 722 East Pike St. The Pike Pine corridor is a heavily trafficked area both day and night. It is home to many local businesses and serves as the main access point to Seattle’s famous Capitol Hill neighborhood.

This call for artists provides a unique opportunity to work on a large scale as the building is one of the tallest and most visible in the area. Also, the historic neighboring building, Pike Motorworks, will have a public facing courtyard that includes this wall, creating an unobstructed canvas.

Urban Artworks will contact artists and collaborate with the design team of Johnson & Carr LLC to determine three finalists. Finalists will submit concept designs for public voting and the final design will be selected upon public input.

Visit http://www.urbanartworks.org for more site specific information.
