The City of Edmonds Arts Commission (EAC) seeks proposals for temporary outdoor art installations on two City-owned chain link fences in downtown Edmonds, WA. The project’s goal is to feature creative ideas by Puget Sound (WA State) regional artists and encourage community conversation on a variety of topics through two exhibits on each fence per year.
This annual call to artists is now accepting proposals for exhibits scheduled during the following time slots: March 2023 – August 2023 / September 2023 – February 2024
ELIGIBILITY
Open to visual artists, or artist teams, residing in the Puget Sound region of WA State, including established, emerging, or youth artists under 18 years of age working with an adult mentor.
PROPOSAL DEADLINE
Thursday, November 10, 2022
CRITERIA
The proposed installation should hold interest for both pedestrians in close proximity and passing vehicles from a distance of approximately 1/2 block.
The usable portion of the two fences measure 6’H x 30 – 80’W (depending on the site). The installation should utilize a minimum of 20 feet wide.
Proposals might reference, but are not restricted to themes of design, community, environment, sustainability, and history. Content must be deemed appropriate for diverse audiences and for public display in a community space.
The artist is responsible for creating the work and securing it to the fence by approved methods, taking into account variable weather and winds for a period of six (6) months. Materials must be appropriate for all weather conditions and not degrade, disintegrate, or pollute during the exhibit period.
Preference will be given to original, site-specific work.
The chain-link fence sites are: The parking lot fence at Art Works, 201 Second Avenue S (which is North facing and has white slat background) / The playfield fence east of the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St. (which is North facing with a green field background)
BUDGET
The City of Edmonds Arts Commission provides an all-inclusive artist stipend of $1,000 per project.
Deadline for proposals is November 10, 2022. All proposals will be reviewed by the Edmonds Arts Commission at its December 5th, 2022, meeting. Artists will be notified if their proposal has been selected by December 12, 2022.
