Through painting sessions, demos, and critiques, Duane Keiser will lead a challenging 3-day workshop on premier coup painting. Premier coup, or “first strike,” is a painting done with the intent of finishing it in one sitting. Like Jazz, premier coup can be wonderfully improvisational while also requiring a high degree of precision and control. Duane will share his various strategies, techniques, and ways of thinking about painterly exploration of a subject within the confines of a moment. He will also discuss ways to use a tablet or phone as a natural, unobtrusive tool for painting and include a talk on being a painter in the digital age.

This three-day workshop. held May 31, 2019 to June 2, 2019, is open to all levels. The cost is $575.
